Operation Oak is a partnership between Northumbria Police, Council Wards and Newcastle’s two Universities, through which we fund additional police patrols in residential areas which have high numbers of students, such as Jesmond, Sandyford, Heaton and Ouseburn.
Operation Oak is on call during term time to support all of our students, and permanent residents, on matters such as safety, noise complaints and tackling crime.
Usually Oak operates on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings in term time, and for major events.
However, in the current pandemic Operation Oak is on call every evening from 10pm to 4.00am – and its hours will be reviewed at the end of this term for 2021.
When on-call, students or residents should text Operation Oak on 07504 898148. When not on call, students or residents should call 101 for the Police.
While many residents feel that Oak is for them, to call out the police to attend noisy parties, Operation Oak is also in place to support students.
