Industrial Action: Financial Concerns

How do I get a fees refund?

In line with the regulatory statement from the Office for Students, the University will pay fair compensation to students impacted by industrial action where contingency plans fail to deliver teaching, assessment, or other promised aspects of students’ experience or to recognise the difficulties students have experienced.

The compensation framework for missed teaching that has not been repeated or replaced in a timely manner up to the end of Semester 2 of the 2024-25 academic year has now been agreed.

The compensation offer is based on the number of modules that have been impacted and type of tuition fee paid (e.g. home or international).

Students who are eligible for this compensation will have been sent an email to their University email address on Thursday 19 June which sets out their compensation offer.

Students should follow the instructions in the email to claim their payment.

Acceptance of this compensation offer will be considered full settlement for teaching disruption during the 2024-25 academic year.  Students still have the option to make an individual complaint regarding other impacts of the industrial action, such as loss of supervision, or they can decline their offer and submit an individual complaint.

A quick guide to the Student Complaints and Resolution Procedure is available and we recommend that you consult this before submitting your complaint. Please ensure that you submit full documentary evidence to support your case. Complaints will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with the procedure.

The full Student Complaints and Resolution Procedure can be found on the Student Progress webpages.

Students who have questions about the compensation framework, can contact us via the Industrial Action Enquiries Form
