Am I eligible for the Covid vaccination?
Everyone aged 12 and over, and some children aged 5 to 11, can get a 1st and 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
People aged 16 and over, and some children aged 12 to 15, can also get a booster dose.
You can find information on this on the NHS webpages.
Do I need to register with a doctor before I can get a vaccination?
We do recommend that you register with a doctor (known as a GP or General Practitioner in the UK) as soon as you arrive in the UK. However, you don’t need to register with a doctor in order to receive your Covid-19 vaccine. You can book an appointment as an unregistered patient by calling a local GP practice.
If you are in Newcastle, there are a number of vaccination centres that you can attend without an appointment. Please see this FAQ for further details.
How can I get the vaccination?
If you have registered with a doctor (known as a GP or General Practitioner) in the UK, you can book your vaccination online here.
If you haven’t registered with a doctor in the UK, you won’t receive an invitation to book a vaccination appointment. You should call a local GP practice to book an appointment as an unregistered patient. Alternatively, if you are in Newcastle, there are drop-in vaccination centres that you can attend where no appointment is needed.
You can find information on how to register with a GP on our website.
Do I have to pay for the Covid-19 vaccination?
In the UK, the Covid-19 vaccination is available free of charge.
I received my first vaccination in my home country. Can I receive my second vaccination in the UK?
If you have received your first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination in your home country and the same vaccine is being offered in the UK, you will be able to receive your second dose.
If you have had the first dose of a vaccine that is not currently being offered in the UK, you should contact your doctor/GP for advice.
For more information on how to access the vaccine please consult these Frequently Asked Questions which have been prepared by the NHS specifically for students.
