How will the University be ensuring students adhere to measures in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus?

Information and guidance for students.

We want to work with our student community to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure that government guidance on local restrictions in place Newcastle are adhered to. So far, the behaviour and adherence to local restrictions by our student community has been excellent.

All students at registration are required to sign a Student Declaration, confirming their agreement to follow reasonable measures implemented by the University in 2020/21 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Failure to follow these measures could lead to disciplinary action by the University.

The penalty for not following current government guidelines could result in a significant fine. Any students found not to be following the relevant safety guidelines will also be subject to our student disciplinary procedures and could face sanctions from written cautions to suspension and even expulsion from the University for repeated breaches. 

We have worked hard to apply safety measures on campus and in our student accommodation. We have 24/7 security staff present across campus including in our University-owned accommodation. If you notice behaviour on campus, including in student accommodation that does not adhere to local restrictions, this can be reported directly to our 24/7 security team by calling 0191 208 6817 or via the Help Points located at each residence.

In emergency situations, students can report directly to Northumbria Police. To do so, where possible, people are asked to use the reporting tool on the force’s website www.northumbria.police.uk. Alternatively, you can call 101. The police will assess the circumstances to determine the appropriate action. The University, together with your Students’ Union, are here to support you and guide you.


We all have a responsibility to protect our NHS and our University and local community, by following the guidance and being responsible.
