Can I have a rapid test if I have Covid-19 symptoms?

Please note that you should not attend an asymptomatic rapid test appointment if the following apply:

  1. Have any symptoms of COVID 19.
  2. Live with someone who is showing symptoms of COVID 19.
  3. Have returned within 10 days from a part of the world affected by the virus.
  4. Have been in close contact with someone who has received a positive test result.
  5. Have been instructed to self-isolate by the NHS test and trace app.

If you have Covid-19 symptoms, you must book a regular Covid test at a local testing site

If you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 you should book to have a regular NHS test (swab test) to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19). You can book this test through the National Health Service.

A walk-through coronavirus testing facility has opened for those with symptoms to book appointments at Castle Leazes Car Park, Newcastle University.

Remember that you will need to book TWO Tests. Where possible these should be 3 days apart, if this is not possible this can be extended to 5 days.
